In 2369 at the age of 17, Ethan entered the Academy. After graduating his first year in Starfleet basic training, he advanced and chose Security to be his major and Command to be his minor. He spent his second and third year studying very hard in these two subjects. He finished both his second and third year being in the top three of his classe's. Then in his fourth year he stepped up his working and finished off the last year first in his class.

In 2365, he graduated from Starfleet Academy and was then transferred to his new assignment aboard the USS Trigger to serve as a Security officer. About two months into serving on this ship, he went on a rescue mission to Janz. Whilst on the planet he helped rescue a very important diplomat and was awarded the Bronze star for his bravery.

In 2366, he was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade. During the year of 2366, Ethan participated in many missions. In the middle of 2366, Ethan was injured during a mission and was left in a coma for about two months. After he awoke again, he had to work very hard to get back into things.

Near the end of 2366, Ethan was transferred to the USS Nimitz to become its new Assistant Chief of Security. He served under Lieutenant Drew Tarn, a half Klingon and half Terran who was the Chief of Security. The Commanding officer of the ship was Captain Lance Frank. Ethan spent a year on this ship and learn't a lot about both Security and Command. Whilst on this ship, Ethan met his first true love, Ensign Jennifer Weiss. They stayed together for about 6 months before they split up because of Ethan's transfer.

In 2367, Ethan was transferred to the USS Haylon. Ethan served as the Assistant Chief of Security under his new department head, Lieutenant Commander David Reynolds. Both Ethan and David soon became really good friends. Ethan and David worked together great and this lead to much success throughout there missions. Ethan also became very close to the crew of the USS Haylon and especially to the commanding officer, Captain Edward Hobbes.

In 2368, Ethan was promoted to Lieutenant for his excellent conduct whilst serving aboard the ship. During this year, the USS Haylon had great success and was recognised for its success' by Starfleet Command on two occasions. Ethan was awarded the USS Haylon's unit citation for his participation on these missions and on the ship. Near the end of that year, Ethan was chosen by Starfleet Command to participate in a special mission to go into Cardassian space and retrieve a defector from Cardassia who had a lot of data about Dominion fleet movements to give to the Federation. The mission was a success but a few crew members were lost on the mission. Luckily news of this retrieval didn't reach the Founders as the Cardassians covered it up to save against their own personal humiliation. For his bravery on this mission, he was awarded the Star Cross and was awarded it by Admiral Tomlinson. Admiral Tomlinson recognised this act of bravery and previous acts and from this time onwards, he wanted to get to know Ethan. Also during this year, he had a couple of relationships but nothing serious.

In 2369, Lieutenant Commander David Reynolds was promoted to Commander and transferred to the USS Trident to become its Executive Officer. With this move, the Chief of Security position became available on the USS Haylon and Ethan was promoted to Lieutenant Commander to take the new position.

In 2370, Ethan met Lieutenant Rebecca Murray, the new Chief Science officer of the USS Haylon. Almost immediately they fell in love and 6 months later they got engaged. Unfortunately for Ethan, when the USS Haylon was on a peaceful science mission to a small moon in the Beta Quadrant, Rebecca was working on a new way to solve a problem with the climate of the moon when something went drastically wrong and the moon mysteriously exploded killing everyone on it. The investigation showed that a generator overheated on the moon causing a chain reaction which destroyed the moon. Ethan then went into a state of depression for a few months and received very little achivement during this time. He had to be counselored against he wishes in order to get over the problem.

Then in 2371, Captain Edward Hobbes of the USS Haylon was promoted to Admiral and moved to command a new shipyard in the Solar system. Commander Kyle Rhys was promoted to Captain of the USS Haylon. Both recommendations from the new Captain and old Captain helped Starfleets decision in making Ethan the new Executive officer of the ship. Ethan was overjoyed by the promotion and at the age of 27 was one of the youngest Executive officers in Starfleet. He served very successfully and actively as the USS Haylon's Executive officer for the next two years.

In 2372, he was promoted to Commander. Also at the beginning of this year, Ethan was voted officer of the year thoroughout Starfleet for the previous year.

Then in 2373, Starfleet Command chose Ethan to become the new Commanding officer of the new Akira class starship, the USS Aeolus. At the age of 29, Ethan had achieved his much wanted Commanding position a lot earlier then he ahd expected.

The ship at the moment is in drydock in the shipyards commanded by Admiral Hobbes. Ethan is awaiting the completion of the ship and the arrival of his new crew.
